Started conducting the roundtable meeting of the parliaments of Southeastern Europe

Organized by Organization for Cooperation and Security in Europe and the Assembly of Kosovo and supported by the Stabilization Pact, today started the roundtable meeting of the Parliaments of Southeastern Europe with a topic Towards development of an effective supervision of the Government by the Parliament

Europe is our common home

Opening speech, complimenting the participants from the majority the Head of OSCE in Kosovo, Werner Wnendt, has showed up the importance of such meetings on establishing the environment of confidence and dialog.

Europe is our common home, which has inherited a history of conflicts and wars, as well as continuous efforts for understanding, tolerance and cooperation, said Werner, who finds the dialog and cooperation issue as feasible, precisely in the meeting of chosen representatives of the population.

Parliamentary Underestimated democracy

He has ascertained that the parliamentary democracy everywhere continues to be underestimated and mentioned the necessity to strengthen the legislative in function, not only by approving the legislation but as well as having more efficient control of the executive of the country. This serves especially for Kosovo- which has new institutions with a will to learn and cooperate, said Werner, the Head of OSCE in Kosovo.

Deputies of the region to meet and introduce

The President of the Assembly of Kosovo, Nexhat Daci, complimenting guests from regional parliaments, has estimated the importance of direct contacts of the parliaments, especially the parliaments of countries vicinity with Kosovo.

Represented minorities with one percent

He went on exposing the structure of the Assembly of Kosovo, emphasizing the representation of all ethnic groups between seventeen political entities that participate in Parliament. He also mentioned that minorities and small ethnic groups, in total with one percent of the population of Kosovo, are represented in the Assembly of Kosovo, whereas in previous legislature, national minorities were represented with 39 percent in the Presidency of the Assembly.

A main committee is lead by Serbs, four from ten are lead by opposition

He also mentioned the fact that four from ten parliamentary committees are lead by opposition deputies. He added that one of the main committees of the Assembly is lead by Serbian deputies, whereas vice chairperson of another main committee is also Serbian.

Every deputy speaks in his own language

Daci has talked as well as for the language equality in the Assembly of Kosovo and for the right of each deputy to speak in his own language during the parliamentary sessions and during the meetings of parliamentary committees.

Strengthening of parliaments

Ex-president of the Parliamentary Assembly of OSCE and member of Romanian Parliament, Adrian Severin, in front of parliaments of the countries of Southeastern Europe has exposed the topic Strengthening of parliaments with development of regional connections.

Parliamentarians “ alternative of conflicts

The Parliament and parliamentarians are the alternative of conflicts, emphasized Severin, while speaking about the role of dialog of the representatives of population and for issues which they don™t completely agree. He expressed this with a quote: it™s better to have a warm peace than a cold war. 

Serbia and international community should be liberated from Kosovo

Deepening in the problems of Kosovo and the region in this occasion, Severin was emphasized that while in Kosovo is always discussed about the independence, in European countries is discussed about interdependence between states. Then he went on figuratively emphasizing that Serbia and the international community should be liberated from Kosovo.

Among main duties of the Assembly of Kosovo in this period, Severin counts: building a real parliamentary assembly with internal developed democracy; establishing a modern Kosovar society (he even mentions the multiethnic, multicultural, pluralist and rational nation), as well as the preparation of Kosovo™s society for integrations within the nation, as he called it, cosmopolitan of Europe.

The President of the Assembly of Kosovo, Nexhat Daci last night has dined dinner for the participants in Vila Gërmia.

Tomorrow meeting with PISG, Petersen

Tomorrow, parliamentarians of the countries of Southeastern Europe will meet with the Special Representative of the Secretary General of UN, Soren Jessen Petersen and they will visit Lypjan.
